Filmmaker Barbara Rick is a highly accomplished director, producer, and writer with more than twenty years experience in journalism and documentary storytelling.

The recipient of a George Foster Peabody Award and winner of multiple Emmy ® awards and many other industry prizes, Ms. Rick is president and founder of Out of The Blue Films, Inc. a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to exceptional storytelling that explores, articulates, and celebrates humanity.

Ms. Rick’s work has received funding from The John S. & James L. Knight Foundation, The Ford Foundation, van Ameringen Foundation, Andrew Goodman Foundation, HBO, and others, as well as support from Agnes Gund, Ellen DeGeneres, Susan Sarandon, Deborah Santana, Tom Fontana, N. Peter Hamilton, and Mary Catherine Bunting.

Her engaging films on spirituality, journalism, education, women’s and LGBTQ rights, HIV/AIDS, and other substantive and compelling topics have won standing ovations and honors in screenings nationally and around the world, and are widely used as teaching tools by outstanding universities.

From 1994 through 2005 Barbara Rick wrote and produced for network anchors at ABC News including Good Morning America and World News Tonight with Peter Jennings.

A lifetime member of the Writers Guild of America East, Ms. Rick was Gabe Pressman’s producer at WNBC-TV, specializing in politics, and taught journalism at New York University and The New School. She is a graduate of Fordham University.
